What counts as a dental emergency
If you’re not sure whether what you’re experiencing qualifies, call us anyway. Common situations we treat as urgent:
- Severe or sudden tooth pain
- Broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
- Knocked-out tooth
- Lost filling or crown
- Swelling in the jaw or gums
- Abscess or signs of infection
- Soft tissue injury in the mouth
When in doubt, call. A 2-minute conversation is faster than waiting to see if it gets worse.
What to do if a tooth gets knocked out
This one has a short window. Rinse the tooth gently with water. Don’t scrub it. If you can, place it back in the socket or keep it between your cheek and gum. If that’s not possible, put it in a small container of milk. Then call us immediately at (905) 525-9414. Time matters here: the faster you get in, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
When you call us
We’ll ask you a few questions about what’s happening and how much pain you’re in. If it’s urgent, we’ll find a slot the same day or the next morning. We don’t put emergency patients on a waiting list and tell them to call back.
If you’re calling outside those hours and the situation can’t wait, go to your nearest emergency room. Jaw swelling, difficulty swallowing, or signs of serious infection need hospital care, not a dental office.
